Let battle commence
A close up of my son's Staunton-design chess set at the start of a game. The board was naturally lit from a window beyond and above the board. I placed a white card beyond the board (though it looks grey here!) to silhouette the chessmen.

Interesting image.
A wonderful variety of tones and shapes. Good job.

Thanks for the kind comments SympL, Tirediron & Corinna. The last time I photographed chessmen was about thirty years ago - also in black and white!! (Thankfully no one spotted the mistake I made when I quickly set up the board for the shot
, or perhaps everyone's too kind to mention it Regards, Tony

Yes, the board is the wrong way round, thus while the king and queen are technically on the correct colours, they are in fact in the wrong positions
I wouldn't have noticed if you hadn't said anything. Love the shot by the way
