Guess what?
I'd like to introduce you to the newest member of my family, my new (used) Eos 50 / Elan II! Bought it from Ebay, and it is the start of my move to film.
![]() *waits for reactions* hahahah Got a roll of Tri-x 400 and a red filter to boot, and of course, some Velvia 100. Next step is to set up the darkroom eq I already own and have no idea how to use! |

:feels faint: Actually, I am digging this. Perhaps ksmattfish can become Digital Matt, and Digital Matt can....well, ok, he probably doesn't want the fish tag, but we'll think of something snazzy for him! Congrats on the new baby, Matt! Maybe you can get in on the next print exchange!

Hehe, good suggestions guys. Yes it is wierd, that Ksmattfish is talking digital, and I'm going the opposite way. Maybe we can just trade equpiment
haha Well, just to let you guys know, when I named myself Digital Matt, it really had nothing to do with the fact that I shoot digital. I had just watched the Matrix, and Morpheus says something to Neo when they are in a simulation like, "this is the digital representation of yourself". So yeah, this is just the digital representation of me :p Do prints for the print exchange have to be hand developed? I'm not equpped for that yet :p |

Thanks for the explanation! And yeah.... ksmattfish announced in another thread today the he is expecting his 20D to arrive in a few weeks....and here we are celebrating your new film cam! It's given this place a bit of an "off its axis" kinda feel.

I'm sure I'll be asking for darkroom help soon Terri, so be prepared. I'm a bit nervous, because I don't have any ventilation. Is that a huge issue?

BUT - I still make a point of just stepping out of the room between prints. I leave the bedroom door open and the fan going, so hopefully I am circulating some of the toxicity out of the air. What's your anticipated setup going to be? (This is really a fun thread, btw - I remember you mentioning wanting a darkroom months ago, and I'm so tickled that you're finally doing it.) And btw - the guy who's waiting for his 20D is still an excellent source for all things darkroom-related.

AHHHHHHHH....so much change around here
The Matt's are switching, and Jon is out altogether....my gosh my head is gonna explode. Actually I think it's really cool that everyone is trying new things, and I know Jon will be back soon with even more impressive shots Congrats on the new equipment Matt, I am sure you'll catch on quick and stun us all!!! |

My space is the corner of my basement. I have an old shower that's not used anymore, and I thought I'd buy some plywood and wall off the area a bit more. There's a glass block window that I'll probably just board up and seal off as best I can. I suppose the possibility of drilling through the wall to create ventillation is there, but I can't afford anything earth shattering right now.
While I've got your attention, what's one good book you'd recommend that will list everything I need and get me started developing and printing? (I'm sure this has been asked and aswered 1000x, so sorry :p) |

I've never read a darkroom book.....I took a darkroom class and have a husband who has 20-odd years of experience, so I get immediate assistance.
Check out this old thread: Darkroom n00b There's a pretty good equipment list of odds & ends in there, plus a book recommendation. And don't forget ebay. There's always tons of miscellaneous DR equipment floating around. Some of it's junk, some of it's fantastic. Stick to your list and read all the descriptions. Here's a fantastic place to order "factory seconds" darkroom supplies at really bargain rates: Doran Enterprises. www.doranent.com 414-645-0109 And for ongoing Q&A, I expect to see you in the Darkroom forum now. Get ready for the most fun you can have with stinky chemicals and red safelights.

Thanks Terri!
I'm doing some freelance work for a guy who owns a printing lab which is now all digital, but he printed school photography from film for 25 years. I'm hoping to get some lessons from him, as well as some equipment that he doesn't use anymore. |
