New car yay!!
Well I've finally decided to grow up and get a new car which actually does reasonable economy! It's got more toys than you imagine, including a talking woman who knows where every pub in Europe is. It's also got a thing called iDrive which means that it's impossibly complicated to use without taking a child along to work it.
This isn't actually it, but it's the nearest looking photo. Expect to see the real thing next weekend! Oh, it's a BMW 530d SE for those who like cars. Rob Check out this for any impressive list (it's actually got a few more options added!): Air conditioning - automatic Armrest, front Car/Key Memory Central air outlet, rear Centre armrest at the rear Check Control warning system Control Display (iDrive) with 6.5 inch colour display screen Controller on centre console Courtesy lights with automatic function and soft on/off dimming Cruise control, programmable Cup holders front and rear Glove compartment, illuminated and lockable Headlight range control, automatic Interior mirror with automatic anti-dazzle function Interior trim - Titanium II Dark Luggage compartment release button in driver's A-pillar On-board computer Outside temperature display Radio/audio - BMW Business radio with single CD player Reading lights front and rear Seats/seat comfort - Standard seats for driver and passenger with partly electric adjustment (backrest angle and seat height) Smoker package Start/stop button Steering column adjustment, manual (if fully electric seat adjustment is specified steering column adjustment reverts to fully electric) Steering wheel - Leather three spoke steering wheel with multi-function buttons Sun visors with vanity mirrors Upholstery - Linea cloth Window lifts, electric, incl open/close fingertip control All-round anti-corrosion system with partial hot galvanising, phosphate treatment and cathodic dip paintwork, preservation of hollow cavities, underfloor protection Bumpers and exterior mirrors in body colour Clear Indicators Door handles in body colour Exterior mirrors, wide angled, electrically adjustable and heated Front doors with three-stage door brake GRAV - Complete front-end made from lightweight aluminium including bonnet and doors Luggage compartment lid with remote key opening Metallic paintwork Rear doors with two-stage door brake Screenwasher nozzles on engine compartment lid, heated Wheels - BMW Light alloy wheels - star spoke style 138, 7.5J x 17" with 225/50 R17 run-flat tyres Window frames and window recess finishers in chrome Aluminium integral rear axle Double joint spring-strut front axle Power Steering - rack and pinion Servotronic steering Six-Speed automatic gearbox Safety Airbags - Advanced Head Protection System (AHPS) front to rear head airbags Airbags - Driver and front passenger ID airbags (Impact-Depending Airbag System), seat occupancy detector for front passenger airbag Airbags - Side airbags at the front for driver and front passenger Aluminium brake callipers at the front and rear Brakes - Disc brakes at the front and rear, inner-vented Central locking, locks doors, luggage compartment and fuel filler cap Child locking system on rear doors Condition Based Servicing (CBS) Crash sensor Crumple units with aluminium impact absorbers front and rear, reversible up to 2.5 mph impact speed, crumple elements at front up to 9.5 mph Dynamic Stability Control (DSC+) - including DTC, ABS, DBC, EBV Electronic immobiliser Foglights with free-form reflector Front passenger seat occupancy sensor Front seat structure optimised for side-impact protection Hazard warning triangle and first aid kit ISOFIX child seat attachment (rear) Park Distance Control (PDC) with visual and acoustic feedback Positioning lights in headlight clusters Rain sensor with automatic headlight activation Remote control alarm system (Thatcham CAT 1) Safety battery terminal Side impact protection, integrated Three-point seat belts for all seats, with pyrotechnic belt tensioners at the front Tyre Puncture Warning System CD preparation for six-disc CD changer in glove box Engine Catalytic converter Charge air cooling Common-rail injection system Diesel particulate filter Digital Diesel Electronics (DDE) Engine mounts, hydraulically controlled EU4 Emission standard Six-cylinder in-line diesel engine with four-valve technology Turbocharger with variable electronically-controlled turbine geometry |

Nice car though Rob. Congrats! Another problem, it's automatic.

Yeah, I'm soooooo excited about picking it up next Saturday! It's a Turbo Diesel Auto because I do a lot of miles in trafficky South London and want effortless quiet economic performance - it will be quite a shock changing from my Porsche with it's stainless exhaust and balls-to-the-wall lairyness.
The six-speed auto doesn't sap too much power as it's got over 500Nm of torque, and the tiptronic stuff allows you to drop it a couple of notches manually for those country road overtakes. Thankfully it doesn't have the dreadful SMG gearbox with the paddles which is very jerky (imho). To quote a certain TV series, "it's smoother than a well-oiled velvet codpiece"! XMetal: Anyone coming to the UK meet is welcome to take some pictures (as long as you remove my numberplate). I'm sure there will be other occasions in the future as well. Littleman: I am "Global IT Systems Manager" for a Market Data Services company. So I suppose I'm a g33k Cheers for the positive response and the appreciation, I'm totally obsessed with cars and I take about a year to choose the next one, usually using my heart rather than my head - so this one is a bit of a deviation from my normal (£££) habits. My last few cars have been a Lancia Delta Integrale, Nissan Almera GTi, Skoda Octavia RS Lauren & Klement, Subaru Impreza WRX STi P1 (£4,500pa insurance!!), Porsche 944 S1 Lux and now the BM. I've also spent some time driving friends' cars including Jag XKR, S-Type R, BMW M3, Ferrari 348GTB & Testarossa, Porsche 911 and most notably an MJD Tempest.. which you have never heard of or seen I would wager! TTFN petrol (& diesel) heads!! R |
