All the more reason I'm hacked off at a number of "authority" figures.

I have watched several documentries that predicted the event and outcome of it. It was well known what would happen. If I were an American, I would want heads to roll over this. This whole situation makes me very angry.

basically, the whole chunk of populace of (and surrounding) new orleans is completely wiped out. like, there will probably no longer be a new orleans (if so, it will take YEARS to build up, and it will never be what it was). It's pretty crazy.

Yup...I'm still trying to grasp the idea that an entire major city basically no longer exists.

WOW Corry .... Talk about predicting something to a T eh !

Yes, it was well known that this disaster was a matter of 'when' and not 'if'.

Watching this the other night made me cry http://www.bradblog.com/archives/00001798.htm

Here's another article. The guy in this wanted a big wall built around the French Quarter for ppl to evacuate to, to protect the city and its ppl.
The government didnt think it was important enough to fund.

http://americanradioworks.publicradi...urricane1.html

Definately a few heads should roll. A city could have been more protected and lives could've been saved.

I shall stop now because I think this might start a political debate and we dont want that

Sorry, I seem to do that quite often. But these are very political things.

Also:

I'm not objecting and won't start political discussions if future but -

Why are we not allowed to have them? I don't really understand. Yes, ok keep them out of all other forums but in General Off Topic why is it not ok?

BECAUSE WHAT GOOD CAN COME OF A POLITICAL DEBATE? ARE YOU A POLITICIAN? THEN NO, WE WONT HAVE THOSE HERE.

PLEASE KEEP ALL CONVO'S REGARDING POLITICS AND ANY SENSITIVE ISSUES AWAY FROM GENERAL OFF TOPIC.

THANKS

I'm on another forum in which not only is political debate allowed, but there is a subforum for it. There is so much fighting and anger on that forum, it's not even funny. I don't want my photo forum to be that way, too.

I think that with topics such as the disaster in New Orleans, coming close to a political statement can happen. My last post was skirting the political factor as there are aspects of it deeply entrenched in the aftermath as well as before it happened.

We can talk about events like Katrina and censor our other opinions ( in this case, our political opinions ) and feelings tied in with them in order to avoid other ppl, who cant control their anger, responding and sending the thread downhill. I find it sad that we do have to censor ourselves here but we obviously have to....

I didnt feel that Daniel was trying to incite political debate, he just posted that he was reminded about another event. He didnt take it any further, only skirted it, same as I did in my post.

All we need to do here is provide simple and polite explanations as to why we don't want anyone even eluding to a political flavoured topic.

found the article pretty freaky. what i can't figure out is that a week after katrina, there are still people in the city who want out but can't. Not the kind of response you'd expect after such a disaster.

I find it very difficult to constrain myself and keep my big yap shut, but the board is not a political forum, I agree.

What makes it more emotional for me is I had spent app. 3 weeks in New Orleans and Louisiana. I had met some of the nicest, most hospitable people there that are permantley etched in my mind. When I see the news shows I am reminded of those terrific people..It truely was my favourite vacation.

Ok thanks for the explanations Core and Luminosity.

People can change opinions for the better. How can anyone learn what is the "right" way if we don't debate things? Politics isn't just for the politicians.

But lets stop talking abut it.

Everyone knew about the possibility of what happened just like everyone knows that a major quake is expected in CA. I know that in my area we could possibly get 7 feet of snow in one day again soon. I bet when the quake happens there will be political debates surrounding that too. I bet when we get that snow here there will be debate as well. It seems everything is related to politics, you can not escape it. However, I feel that this is not the place to discuss political views it is just like discussing religion there is never a "winner", nobody is right it just causes bad tempers and ill feelings. Many forums have a specific Political / Religious topic board - if wanted maybe the admins can make one of those (if in their infinite wisdom they feel it necessary). On this board I think maybe we can share ideas on how to help clean up, possible economic and social impact. Still boarding on political.
