Flash Lights

The first electric torches running off batteries used to last up to a minute so manufacturers used a button to flash the light momentarily to light the way, thus saving battery power.

So that's where the term "Flash Light" comes from! (I saw it on TV! )

That is all.

True dat!

The early lights were interesting before that - like the Brush arc lights. Worked well outside, but were too harsh for inside. I recall someone calling them a "light from hell." Incandescants from Edison brought lights indoors.
