No longer a newbie, moving up!
Cannon EOS rebel xs OR Nikon D40?
I've been asked to shoot a headshot tomorrow and my camera is in for repairs, and I have available to me the cannon EOS rebel xs and the Nikon D40. Which would be better to shoot with? My lights work with either.
The problem is that I'm a Sony guy so I'm not really sure which one would be better for the application.

It really doesn't matter which you use.
They are pretty equal entry level cameras.
The only advantage may acrue to the D40 because it has an electronic shutter and can sync with flash right up to it's max shutter speed of 1/4000.
The quality of the images is up to you and your light set-up, not the equipment.
