I think I might get some faster than that...we'll have to see tonight in the full dressed rehearsal.
Flash is a no-go really. too many little people in the show to be even more distracted by me...

In the next show, I may ask if we can have some time with the proper lights to do posed stage shots, though. That might be good.

    Cheers

Well, here we go...a couple or six shots from the shows. In the end I went with shutter priority most of the time, got the ISo up to 1000, shutter at 1/100. The aperture mostly was from f2.8 up to about 3.5...rarely more. I also made use of the programmable slots on the selecting dial C1, C2, and C3. Had ISO 1250, and ISO 1600 on the others for the really dark scenes to try to get more light and hence less noise. To be honest, never really thought that using high ISO could be as noise free as long as lots of light coming in. But it worked quite well.

    Thanks to all who helped.

Noise was a lot less of an issue, and I also took advice on some noise removal using ACR (decent settings to use, basically), so I processed the whole batch with that first, then did individual photos afterwards from that starting point. In most cases I just had to crop and sharpen. In some I did B&W conversions using Silver Efex Pro as I think it suits the scenes. In all, it worked very well...the customers are all very pleased (I showed them some on the iPad) and they will all be ordering CD/DVD of the images once I have them all done.

They are, so that's good. And as I process more of them I will have a decent CD/DVD of images put together to sell to the cast/crew. I showed them some on the iPad and they are loving them, so I am pleased, and relieved!

    Cheers

Looking good. If you can, try and clone out some of the mics - it'll blow them away if the mics are off their faces.

I did some of that in the previous shows. Once I have the bulk of the photos processed I will start with niceties. To be fair, they accept the mics anyway. It's just when the mic slips during a show...I have several pictures of "Oliver" with a black sponge "nose" where the mic is in front of his nose!

I think the Theatre Company will be looking for raising some moe funds and get some less obvious microphones for the future.

    Thanks

Excellent work. Especially when you're pushing the envelope and you don't have the top (expensive) gear. And yet, you make what you have look very, very good.
    Bend The Light likes this.
Put the important things in important places
Compose to minimize dead space and things that distract from the center of interest - the important things
Process to minimize faults and maximize good points.

Thank you. It feels good to hear that, and yes, I am pushing the envelope...the lens is about 10x the price of my most expensive lens, borrowed from a friend. But even that is not the most expensive L lens I could have had. And the 40d is good, but on the grand scale, there are many better than that. But I am very pleased with what I have acheived here...my show shots have improved with each show, and these are definitely the best I have done.

    Many thanks
