A lighting technique

Very true but the point is the technique. A great understanding can be built from looking at the diagrams and the final image of how lighting can be setup. If you learn something from this 5 light setup it could benefit your other smaller setups.

It really does not matter whether it is 7 lights or 1. What IS important are the ratios between the main subject and the background and this applies to outdoor as well as interior and studio lighting. For me the whole earth is a studio and light is light whether indoors or out.
