Neutral Density Filter for EF 50mm f1.4 USM lens

Sometimes I find my pictures are over exposed by bright sunlight, when I shoot in small f stops. Will a ND filter solve this problem? Thanks in advance.

Only if your camera does not have a fast enough shutter speed to compensate

In bright sunlight, drop the ISO back to 100, then pick a shutter speed & f-stop combination that yield a proper exposure (e.g. f/16 & 1/100th... or f/2.8 and 1/2000th, etc.)

A neutral density filter allows you to change your shooting conditions. Suppose you want a very slow shutter speed to deliberately blur and "imply motion" in your images... and even at ISO 100 and f/22, the slowest you can shoot is 1/50th is still too fast. You could use a ND filters to drop the light down enough use a slow shutter.

Yes, a 2 or 3 stop ND filter will allow you to shoot at f/1.4 in bright sunlight without going over the maximum shutter speed of your camera (which should be 1/8000s).
