    speedlights?

    what exactly do they do? my friend says when your doing continous shooting, iit flashes every time you take the picture. is this true?

    What do they do...they flash
    That's just the name associated with accessory (hot shoe) flashes from Nikon.
    For example, the Nikon Speedlight SB600.

    Canon uses Speedlite...ie: Canon Speedlite 580EX.
