Hey guys, so I'm trying to create some hdr images of a few shots I took yesterday. I was going to buy the 32 bit Photomatix plugin for LR4, but I decided I would try and find a free program first. I chose Luminance HDR.

Problem is, I can't figure out how to import my Raw images from Lightroom into Luminance. It just pops up with an error message, so I tried to use JPEG instead. With a portrait orientation, it seems to have worked fine, but with a horizontal image, it compresses the image, and just in general looks terrible.

So does anyone have any idea how I use Raw images? Or should I just break down and buy the Photomatix plugin?

Here are the images. The first one is the portrait. The second is the horizontal that came out bad.

Hello. I'm very new to photography, digital photography, HDR. Kind of jumping in the deep end with the HDR, but it's been fun and interesting. A friend recently offered to share his knowledge of photographing houses, as he sees a niche market since most agents are posting pretty poor quality photos on the MLS. So I'm looking to provide HDR images without getting too intensive on the editing (Photomatix Pro 4.2.6 and a little bit of editing in iPhoto).

I'm using a Canon T3i and a Nokina wide angle lens. I shoot in raw. I find I'm often taking around 7-9 images to catch the full range, 1 stop apart. I download with USB into iPhoto on my Mac Book because I don't have a card reader and that's the only way I've found to get the images onto my computer. I export in original format to desktop and then load to Photomatix from there. Process: Tone Mapping, Method: Details Enhancer.

I'm finding it a challenge to get realistic, correctly-exposed views of skies and trees through the windows. I'm often needing to turn the white point up to a point where the windows start to blow out in order for the overall lighting to be light enough. Also find the skies and trees turning "cartoonish" colors sometimes.

Any tips/guidance/suggestions/feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
I recently completed an assignment in which I had to use quite a bit of HDR. I thought my HDR skills were OK, but this assignment proved to be very challenging. I was asked to photograph a 5 star hotel here in Holland, which is situated right on the beach. The management of the hotel really wanted to see the beach and the sea through the large windows, but the different in light between inside and outside was huge - sometimes as much as 7 or 8 stops.

I want to show you some of my images (below) and ask you how I might have done better. A larger web gallery can be found here:
Huis Ter Duin

My workflow:
Photography with Nikon D800, Raw, on tripod. Sometimes 3 images 1 stop apart, sometimes 5, sometimes 7. Triggered with remote.
Images in to Lightroom (Apple Mac pro). HDR created with JPG's in Nik HDR Efex Pro 2 (first images), later with Photomatix (usually tonemapped). Export as Tiff to Photoshop CS6 for final edits (luminosity masks, removal of smoke detectors, etc.

I am relatively OK with the images in this gallery, but not very enthusiastic. I find the images quite grungy, the colours a little garish... I find there is still too much blown out detail, too much light flare...

I'm wondering how I could have done better. The photo editing took tons more time than I had budgetted already. I wonder if I should have used large lights more (I did for some of the images), but that slows me down even more during the shoot (I work alone).

Any comments you have are very welcome!

Hello everyone! Does anyone knows a place where I can download multiple exposures of the same image to train my HDR skills?

The only web site I know is the website created by Klauss Herrmann and I already tried all of his pictures.

Thanks a lot.
