So I got some cheap extension tubes that I've been playing with, mainly using all 49mm of tubes and a 135mm 2.8, I've been able to get shots like this from a reasonable distance

But I was wondering what would happen if I got a reversing ring and put a 50mm on the front of the 135, what would the magnification be like compared to this?

Not a macro shot but you guys are probably my best chance. Found this behind the shop at work while on a smoke break. Some funky kind of fungus I guess, but thought I'd take a chance of someone here knowing what it was. Hopefully you won't tell me I'll be dead in a few hours.

Longhorn beetle (female of Pharsalia ochreomaculata Breuning, 1968?) on a rhinoceros beetle (Chalcosoma atlas?). The Cerambycid was on a wall and I moved to a more natural looking spot and then it climbed onto the rhino beetle. All unplanned.

These pics were taken with a Canon Power Shot A3100, no photo editing except cropping. I'm currently shopping for a DSLR (Canon t3i or Pentax K-30?) and would love to know which lens would give me better macro capabilities. 100mm? a macro zoom? range? Camera and/or lens opinions welcome.

I caught this guy on my garage this evening. I thought I would bust out the Vivitar 100mm and the Lumiquest Softbox III. I thought it did a fairly good job, considering it was a single SB-700 for lighting. Not 1:1 though, but it still worked out I think.

Chased this little guy around for a bit today, he is the first one to take my offer of a leaf to sit on and even paused to pose!

I have to say that the camera makes me totally brave. I have a fear of spiders that goes way back to a LARGE Dock Spider incident when I was young but with the camera in front of me I can get close enough with my 50mm for this shot... never woulda believed you if you said I'd be that close to a spider, even a small one and not be crawling out of my own skin! lol

I've just been in a slump lately. I've been struggling to either find a shot or capture it correctly, or both. Bleh.
