I am just asking for a bit of help/advice before purchasing a new lens for my Canon 500D.
I am looking at buying the Canon 300mm f/4 lens along with the Canon Extender 1.4x. I seem to be confusing myself and getting into a panic before buying, but will both the lens and extender fit the Canon 500D ?

I am also looking to upgrade from the 500D in the next year-year 1/2.
Thanks

Hi everyone,

I've been agonizing over this question for weeks now so I wanted to get some opinions. I'm upgrading to full frame this summer (either a 5D Mark ii or iii) and I want to get an excellent walkaround zoom as my main lens. I'm mainly interested in travel photography (landscapes, beaches, sunsets, outdoor portraits, and the occasional indoor shot). I don't use a tripod when I'm backpacking.

I'm torn between the 24-70L and the 24-105L.

I hear from pro friends that the 24-70 is the sharper lens, but I worry about not having IS and the convenience of the extra focal length.

Any feedback would be great! I suppose I could rent both too, but taking two rentals traveling can get pretty pricey...

Thanks!

Hi guys. I'm loving to ask questions in this forum since the members are really awesome and helpful, thank to you guys! I know this question is pretty dumb, but i really need to find the answer here.

I planned to buy prime lens. A lens for portraits and low light photography like band concerts.
But i have stumbled to this lens EF 35mm f/1.4L USM Wide Angle

I'm really thinking this is a wide angle lens (as it states in its classification) but my friend said it isn't a wide angle lens. Now im puzzled. But i am also thinking, maybe he misinterpreted since he's a NIKON user. Can you please clarify things? And also, does this kind of lens would be good paired with Canon Rebel T4i?

Thank you so much again!

Hi all! I have a bit of a problem with my camera here..
I've had the camera for 3-4 years, maybe. The camera and lenses were still working perfectly fine 6 months ago (haven't got the time to play with the camera again), but today when I try to take some indoor pictures, I find it difficult to focus.

Here are what I have:

Canon T1i 500D

Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM

Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-6.5 IS USM

When I try to take a picture, I can hear the whirling sound and the lenses move back and forth as it try to focus on object. And then nothing.
Usually, when it was working fine, there is this "beep-beep" sound signalling that it's focused and I can press the shutter button.. but now, no beep sound and pressing the button doesn't do anything.

It'll still auto-focus and take some pictures. Out of 10 attempts, maybe only 3-4 times that it succeeded. This happened on both lenses while on AF mode. When I set it to MF, I can just snap pictures all day, but all will be out of focus.

Any idea if it's the camera or the lenses that's faulty? Would it be expensive to repair it?

So, I'm feeling like an idiot. In auto mode everything works just fine. But when I change into Tv, Av, or M (don't know about others); when I press the shutter release the view screen goes black (normal I believe as I hear the shutter "open") & then nothing happens until I press the shutter release a second time. I've been following along with some 60D training videos online & I'm doing exactly what the instructor's doing on screen. Which tells me somewhere along the line I changed a setting I don't know about, and thus don't know how to change back. I'm sure someone out there is going to know exactly what I'm doing & I'd appreciate any advice. It doesn't seem to have any relation to focus modes, flash settings, shutter speed or aperture settings, drive settings, or any other of the normal settings. It's almost like it thinks I'm using a remote of some sort, but I'm not. Which doesn't mean I haven't changed it by mistake just familiarizing myself with the settings. Thanks all.

I have been using a Canon EOS Rebel T3i for a while now and I really enjoy it, but I have recently noticed there have been new releases of cameras in the series the T4i and T5i. I'm having a hard time figuring out if I should upgrade or not to one of these. I have been trying to do some research on them, but I don't fool myself into believing I understand the technical details of some of these reviews comparing the 3. I was wondering if anyone here could possibly assist me whether through better observations of the cameras or perhaps personal use enabling a simple compare and contrast. Maybe this is a lot more simple than I am making it.

Hello I am new here and need some info. I read on this forum already before I was a member about cleaning a focusing screen on a Canon T3i. The screen is removable via a small phosphor bronze clip that has an indent in the middle. Unlike the Canon 60D, the T3i does not have an area in the center that the focus screen folds down. It does however come out.

I need to clean my screen and know that any type of fluid is not recommended on the screen. So if a blower will not remove the dirt and dust what else will remove it? Any tips or tricks that you guys use?

Any help would be appreciated, I am one of those people who cannot live with it, it bugs me to no avail!

Thanks

I shoot weddings professionally. My primary body is a 5D2 with a 24-70 2.8L and a speedlight. My secondary body is a 50D with a 50 1.4 or an 85 1.2L.

Here's what I like about the 50D:
lightweight
fast and responsive
gapless microlens sensor provides a beautiful image

The problem is that it's a crop sensor, and sometimes my 85 is just too tight. Particularly on the dance floor during receptions.

So here are my options:
5D2
Pros: I already have one, so they would be interchangeable
Uses CF cards

Cons:
Focusing is slow, sometimes can't focus at all without AF-assist from the speedlight
Peripheral AF points are hit-or-miss

60D
Pros: Better low-light AF
Cleaner high-ISO image
Digital level
Top active AF point switches with camera orientation (I would LOVE this feature)
Lighter weight
Gapless microlens
It's a new toy, and I love new toys.

Cons: Max shutter speed of 4000, and I do find myself shooting at 8000, particularly to get closeups with the 85 1.2 open wide at bright, outdoor receptions.
Uses SD cards, so now I'm buying and carrying 2 kinds of cards
CNET claims that they found that it focuses SLOWLY (1.4 sec) in low light. So even if it CAN focus in lower light, if it can't do it quickly, who cares?

Really, I'm looking for a response from someone who has used both the 6D and the 5D2. What's your experience?

I've been watching the rumors on this lens for years. I thought it was never going to surface in the real world.

It's a 200-400mm zoom (which makes it Canon's highest focal length "zoom") at a fixed f/4 focal ratio... except it has a built-in 1.4x teleconverter -- flick a switch and it's a 280-560mm f/5.6 lens.

The teleconverter is specifically tuned for this lens -- it's not a generic 1.4x. The articles I've seen about it mention that it's MUCH shaper than just using a general 1.4x teleconverter with a lens.

And this lens can be yours for the low low price of only $11,799! At that price you may just want to buy two!

Just in case anybody was wondering... my birthday is in October. :D

Hi

I've been shooting for a few years now with an AV-1 35mm film body i was given and it's given me a lot of pleasure over the years and I'm turning out some half decent results, won't win comps but better than my point and shoot!

I've recently made a sub £100 investment in a used EOS 20D. I know with an adapter i can use my FD mount lenses, i also have some minolta AF lenses I can use.

The 20D seemed a reasonable compromise in terms of price and performance since I don't have the money to buy a 5D or 1D, more over if I did i probably wouldn't have to skill to justify the investment.

I wanted to know if i picked a good body or not, it hasn't got a full sensor which concerns me as it's not really like for like 35mm to 35mm I was reading it will have a narrower depth of field.

8MP should be plenty for me, im not making canvas prints or anything bigger than A3 type stuff so any more would probably be a waste?

I don't know much about the xxD range but at the price it seemed a good opportunity to start in dslr photography and get some comparable results to my av-1.

i shoot mostly portraits and love using mostly my 135 and 85 primes. I hardly ever touch my zooms unless shooting a wedding (second shooter). So I don't like switching between my primes outdoors a lot, so a second body would speed up my process and feel more secure and professional.

I really would like to get a second full frame. I have $600 right now and would consider a 5dc or selling my zooms to stretch my budget, what would you do?
