As the closest focusing distance is depends on lens rather than the camera body, so what macro mode do?

I use to the Paul C Buff commander to slave the flashes and was wondering if I could just keep it at the same frequency channel to slave two sb-700? I know there is an in camera command option but I hate menu diving, so I was hoping to make it simpler. Am I just being a big baby for not learning all my cameras slaving options? or Is it normal to keep it simple? I shoot alot of skateboarding so I need to be able to throw up flash stands and flashes and get to shooting, not alot of time to set stuff up in camera.

I am stepping up from the Nikon d3100 and I want a FX body, but I have a big problem the only actual FX lens I have is my Tamron 90mm.. I always see that if I have a FX body with DX lenses then I am not using the FX body to its full potential! I have the money for a d600, but no money for any FX lenses... So what I plan on doing is just buying the:
Nikkor 50mm 1.2 (used)
Sigma 120-400mm 4.5 - 5.6 (used or new)

Which is roughly around the cost of a refurbished d600 and then use them on my d3100! And slowly build my way up to get a Tokina 16 - 28mm 2.8! Once this is obtained and I have enough money I plan on getting on whatever FX body is out there.

Do you think this is a good idea or no? If not please tell me why...

Take into consideration as well that I am just going to college after this summer and haven't officially got a part time job yet (I'm trying really hard right now!)

STAY ON TOPIC PLEASE I NEED AS MUCH INCITE AS POSSIBLE! IT ALL MEANS A LOT TO ME!!

D5100 Focusing Issues With Action Shots

Hi everyone, I am a long time reader and a first time poster. I got The Nikon D5100 as my very first DSLR last summer, ditched the kit lenses, and now I use a 35mm 1.8 about 90% of the time (and a wide angle 12-24mm for things like scenery, etc.) Overall, I am comfortable with the camera, always shoot in manual mode and generally happy with the results I have been getting.

A while back I started volunteering for several dog rescue organizations and adoption shelters to take photos of dogs. My portrait and still standing shots come out great, perfect focus and bokeh. The problem I have is with action shots, especially when there are multiple subjects in the photo - a common occurrence when I have to get shots of several dogs playing in the shelter enclosure. Sometimes one of the subjects ends up being in focus, but the other one is almost always blurry.

I have a slightly better success rate with a single moving subject, but when there are more than one, it's like the continuous focusing feature freaks out and loses track of both subjects. The result is a huge pile of back-focused shots. Even the shots that look like they came out okay are still slightly blurred, while the background is in perfect focus.

I practice a lot on my own dogs, and the results I am getting are pretty dismal - probably a 20% success rate, sometimes less. I have tried pretty much everything I could think of as far as settings and lighting conditions and backgrounds/locations. I also consulted several professional photographer friends who confirmed that I am running the right exposure/speed/ISO settings. The only explanation I've gotten is that the D5100 doesn't have enough focus points like the D600 or D800. Neither of these cameras are in the budget for me right now, so I need help figuring out how to make the D5100 work at least for another year.

Thanks in advance for your help and advice.

Here are some example shots of the blurred action shots:

Hello everyone thank you in advance for your opinions.....

Ok so I am looking at a new DSLR purchase and seem attracted to the 7100 and the Sony a77 and would love to know if you wonderful Nikon people looked at the Sony camera when you made your buying decision and would love to hear why you chose the Nikon.

I have held both in well lit stores and must say the Nikon certainly feels more "traditional" with its optical viewfinder etc but the Sony has me interested with some of the non traditional things it can do like panoramic shooting and 3d etc.

I will mainly be shooting family activities and children sport and can see the Sony's LCD screen as more helpful here for taking shots holding the camera above my head or low to the ground but feel that the Nikon was more responsive so feel it is better for making sure I do not miss anything and also I shoot a lot indoors so feel the low light on the Nikon may be better.
Having said that the high burst mode on the Sony is appealing for school sport etc....

Anyway my current camera is an old old cannon DSLR and see this next purchase as another 5 - 10 year investment and Sony still seems so unknown at this level. In every store I go into they know about cannon and Nikon but not the Sony so much, so sorry for the wall of text I am just hoping that some current 7100 can help tell me why they chose that camera.

Cheers

I'm curious to know if anyone else has experienced this. I have several Nikon NC filters, and all have been fine except the 52mm size. I've had two now that appeared fine at first, but developed defects not long into their life. Both were purchased from reputable dealers, so I don't think they're counterfeit. (I bought the first one at a Wolf Camera going out of business sale in Houston, and the second one from Adorama.)

I'm certainly no expert, but it appears a small circle of the coating has come off.

I've used the lens I've had these mounted on very little - a little street photography in New Orleans with the first one. The second one just walking around my suburban neighborhood. On the first filter, the defect was off to the side a bit more than on this one.

The first one was cleaned with a lens cleaning cloth. The second one a lens pen.

Any thoughts? Anyone experience similar? I'm a little surprised because I haven't seen this on my 58mm, 67mm or my 77mm.

My wife and I took our 9mo old baby girl to one of the may nature park in our area today. We've just started making it a point to take our D3200 with us to get some practice in and capture our daughter. We took about 150 photos today. When we got home I transferred all of the photos from the camera to my external hard drive. Upon reviewing the images on the computer screen I noticed there was a small pink (magenta) line on the right hand edge of every image that runs the length of the image. I have not printed any to see if its on the actual print but is this cause for concern? And how do I keep that from happening? Is it something in the camera menu I can change or is it internal? Or it is my computer?

Thanks
