I have to do a shoot for a big graphic design project I got for a restaurant. They want pictures of the cocktails for the drink menu. I would like to shoot everything myself, but wondered what a good setup would be. I did a little research, I think I would need a long gridded soft box to help accentuate the curves of the various glasses without producing any hotspots. Also a snoot to help light up and rim the drinks and ice for some pop. Anything else?
Any help would be much appreciated.

One more problem is AF-led, somethimes it light after shot as log as i press button for focus, or wait a few seconds.
I dont know is it problem with my dslr hot shoe or yongnuo.
Flash has warranty but the process of service is so long. I want to ask you 2 things.
1. Is there way to fix this problem?
2. Is this destroying my flash? Because it's not annoying me and if I know that it's not destroying my flash i will continue using it because flash work perfect, except this!

thank you, and sorry for my bad english!

Hello all,

I am trying to use two Nikon SB-28's off camera with my Cannon 5D Mark II. I am using two cactus wireless receivers and the trigger. I have read alot about not being able to use TTL function, so I've tried to switch over to M mode on my speedlights. The camera is also set to M.

So, most of the time, when I press the test button on my transmitter both flashes will pop. But then, when I use the shutter button, only one will flash. I am really lost at this point. I have read a lot of people saying this set up works great, but I can't seem to make sense of it all. If anyone can help me out, I would appreciate it!!!

Heya, so i am doing a shoot for a hair dresser which will only be my second ever in a studio so im thrown right in the deep end as ive had no training etc on anything to do with studio work.
They were happy after the first shoot where i somehow lucked out and it went okay enough to pull out what i thought was an okay shot after photoshopping it (will attach below)
The hairdresser said she was fine to get more lighting just to let her know what would be good to get and i really am not sure. There were only 3 dim lights (shown in picture below) and no natural lighting. Also i cannot get the lights to flash with ext flash thing i had so has to work without that.

Would a beauty dish/light be most helpful?
Feel free to critique the photo below but enlarge it first as its coming up in weird colours below, was really hard trying to shoot without even being allowed in the studio to practise before the day!

P.S I have a canon 60D with a 18-135mm lens

Recently I’ve been learning about off-camera flash in a more “structured” budget-studio type setup with modifiers, etc. and I’m really enjoying it, but I’m starting to get fed up with the limitations of the built-in wireless system on my T3i. I love how I’m able to set the controls right there at the camera, but the “line of sight” requirement for the system to work—as well as its poor reliability outdoors—is driving me nuts so I was looking into some radio triggers.

As mentioned, I have a T3i, and one each 580EX-II and 430EX. I have access to a 320EX as well, if I need it.

Here’s my problem: if I go the radio trigger route, I’ll be forced to use my 430EX at full power, unless I spring for an ETTL-compatible wireless system.

I’m not a pro, never will be, and the portraits for family and friends I take a few times a year—a scenario that accounts for only a small portion of my photography—make it hard to justify hundreds of dollars for Pocket Wizards or other such “pro” products, just to overcome a limitation with the 430EX. Especially since I’ve read over and over how budget priced triggers from Yongnuo and others are working well for lots of hobbyists like me.

So if the goal is to achieve a two-light setup, with my current kit as the starting point, what would you do? Some options that come to mind:

Sell the 430EX and replace it with a manual-capable flash, buy the Yongnuo triggers

Buy a reasonably priced third-party flash that has manual capability, buy the Yongnuo triggers, keep the 430EX as a third light

Bite the bullet on ETTL capable triggers

I’m a big sucker for a favorable “bang for your buck” factor, because I’m frugal (ok, cheap) by nature. However, within reason, money isn’t really a problem in this instance; I don’t mind a more expensive answer if it truly is the smartest answer for my particular situation. In case it’s not obvious, “go with Pocket Wizard because it’s what the pros use” is not a good enough reason to justify tripling or quadrupling the price—I need to see the extra value it would bring to my specific situation.

Thanks in advance
Matt

I am planning a serious photo shoot with my daughters in a month or so.

This is a room in the Nottoway Plantation I shot last week. I've done talked to them about shooting in this room with my daughters and it is OK, I just can't bring in huge equipment (that I don't have anyway). I will be using a soft box over my speed lite, but I want a couple small, battery powered lights to help curb any shadows. I am thinking something along the lines of a powerful flashlight with a soft box on them. Is there something like this or something I could make?

Edit - test images from today

Here are some test shots I took of the room today. I set a custom white balance to the wall of #'s 1,3, & 4. #2 was the other end of the room, so the WB is a little off. These were taken at high noon. The windows are East #1,3, & 4/West #2

Just wanted to see if anyone has any suggestions. I've been taking some car photos on the side for quite sometime now and things are starting to pick up as word of mouth spreads and im interested in getting a lighting kit with some stands and soft boxes.
Hey all, I'm hoping someone might have experienced this issue. I recently purchased both a Canon 430 ex II flash and a set of cybersync wireless transmitters to go with it. I had to purchase a hotshoe separately that had the pc sync cord port, since the flash does not have one built in. After finally getting every hooked up and working, I'm noticing that when using the transmitters to fire the flash (weather hitting the test button, or taking a picture), the flash emits a popping sound as each flash is fired. It only does this when fired from the transmitters and not from the camera's hotshoe or via IR. The noise is also present regardless of the flash being set on ETTL or manual mode, and I can hear the noise all the way down to 1/32 power. You can also feel the vibration if you are holding the flash. Its only a month old, probably fired less than 100 times, and up to this point used mostly on the camera or triggered via IR. Has anyone else experienced this issue? I'm concerned that the noise being made is either a capacitor or flash bulb, that could lead to premature failure.
