These are my favorite Osprey pictures. Shows how free they are and how beautiful there feathers and everything are.

My first post here that has anything to do with photography. I was just outside my house and saw a bird on a tree so tried to give it a shot. Here's what I came up with. C&C is welcome.

I really want to catch a flight shot of this guy. Many people may think I was slightly crazy going from the pretty sharp Tamron 200-500 to the old giant Tokina 300 F2.8 (who gives up 200mm of reach for birds?). These owls were one of my deciding factors.. I shot this at F3.2 1/320th ISO 400. With the Tamron I would have been at F7.1 and maybe 1/60th and probably had a blurry mess... comments welcome..

Caught this one across the river yesterday, they were flying about between the branches :)

I know these pictures aren't the greatest, but I wanted to share them with you guys anyway. They were shot on a Canon SX40, in my backyard. They come every day to play.

Many places you go in Florida you will see gators. In some places like Shark Valley they lay just off the edge of the walkway or tram road and are less than 5 feet away. However this gator I encountered in Flamingo FL scared the crap out of me. I never, ever want to experience anything like this again:

This was my first time photographing lightning at daytime, and it was quite a bit more difficult than I thought it would be. First off, I found out that if you use to long of exposures the lightning doesn't show up in the picture. I think this is because the short burst of light from the lightning gets choked out by the daylight in lond exposures. The time I was taking the pics was about 2 pm. I used a 2-2.5 second exposure, and a ND filter. Any tips and ideas have on how to improve would be great.

Went for a little wander this morning and found this guy trying to get his chubby prickly butt up into the garbage trailer, he failed miserably lol The second is him wandering off in search of something easier to get (with some wicked early morning backlighting)

I are sniffin' around the garbage trailer... but I can't get my butt up into the thing to have a snack lol






I give, going to enjoy the pretty day!

I was not ready for this at all. I was just playing around with my macro lens and I was on spot focus and +.7 EC. I had just put my 300mm back on and this Night Heron appeared out of no-where.. I think 1 is the coolest, manged to get a pan in at 1/160th... The cardinal was just a funs hot playing in the rain with flash... comments welcome...

So I went on a short ~2 hour shoot yesterday, mainly to scout out some burrowing owl burrows that I can stake out in the future, but also to test a few different AF settings on whatever I could find, but didn't come back with much. these were the only 2 worth processing, and even they leave alot to be desired....oh well...tomorrow is an all day raptor hunt so I'm pretty excited about that.

Mr owl says "mu-ha-ha-ha...NO I will not give you a decent background! mu-ha-ha-ha...and I'll cram myself up in the rafters so you'll have to boost the ISO way high too!....but I will at least acknowledge you and look in your direction unlike my colleagues on the other end of the barn."



And a shrike out in the rain...was trying 9 point dynamic AF here, I don't really like it, I'm much more of a single point AF kinda guy, it caught the AF more on his back than in the eye.



on the plus side, I found 2 inhabited burrowing owl burrows that are in PRIME locations to get some great shots. Tomorrow should be much better. looking forward to some hawks, falcons, eagles, and possibly more owls...

Well technically bird behind plexiglass. I visit a senior care center weekly and there is a large bird case with plexiglass sides. There are about 30 birds & babies. I placed the lens up against the glass & had to find a clean area. First bird photo, does it count? ;) Sorta like shooting fish in a barrel.
