Replacing foam in Canon lens cases

    Greetings,

I've several Canon lens cases (C & D models) that need to have the foam replaced. The cases themselves are in great shape, just the foam is shot and literally disintegrating. I'd hate to have to ditch them if I can replace the padding instead.

I can probably pick up foam from a craft store or someplace that does upholstery if needed. A quick google search found one post from a few years ago that mentioned some types of foam releasing a gas that was bad for the lens coatings (polyurethane I think), but otherwise no real useful info.

    Any suggestions?

I've never used it for your purpose but I would try a product called Foamies.
It's a foam sheet in various thicknesses and colors, with or without
adhesive backing. It's often sold through arts & crafts type retailers. I get
mine at a local fabric/craft shop. I've used it to replace missing rubber focus
rings on lenses, camera case lining, camera light seals, even for fixing leaky
bellows. It's easy to work with and pretty cheap too. I've been meaning to
try making a whole camera case out of the stuff when I get around to it. It
has a nice feel to it and cuts easily with an Exacto knife, etc.

You can get an idea of what's available here:
sheets items & other from ConsumerCrafts

    I'll give that a look.

    Thanks!
