    The shutter speed is like you blinking. The faster you blink the less light that will go into your eye. Slow the speed down and get more info. Stop shooting in manual right now. My suggestion is you shoot in auto mode for a bit and see what the EXIF settings are and then play with those in manual mode so you have an idea of where to start. Right now you are all over the place.

    I think you guys are getting EV and LV confused. EV does not describe scene brightness on its own. It represents a combination of shutter speed and aperture, or a combination of scene brightness and film/sensor sensitivity. For example, EV 0 is f/1 at 1 second, no matter what the ISO is. Please don't get the OP any more confused than he already is.
