While both are great cameras the Nikon FE is much easier to use manually. In manual exposure mode the A1 just tells you the shutter speed you have set and recommends an f/stop. The FE becomes a "matched needle" system. It indicates the shutter speed you've set and you adjust the f/stop to match that indicator with the exposure meter.

    Plastic/reconstructive surgery?
    Luck favors the prepared.

To be in the right place at the right time you have to first be in the right place.

Do you really care which camera I use?

Ahhh yes... I forgot about that. I hate not having a needle style meter... The Canon AE-1 (the original, not the "Program" model) has a needle meter though so that might be a camera to look into.

Id go with the fe, nikons seem to hold up better with age, and these cameras are getting old. The shutters in the ae1 are especially prone to malfunction if the camera hasnt been in continuous use.

Ome plus of the canon is that fd lenses are cheaper then nikkors, due to the mount being discontinued.
