    Getting Religion

I was driving home from work when I saw this Black Vulture sitting on top of a church steeple, had to stop and get some shots. I know the background is bland, I need to add clouds or something.

Here is a different shot, it is not that good but it shows the steeple.

C&C is always welcome and appreciated. Thanks.

The conversion could be improved upon. It's too obvious that it's digital.

Give me an example. If I shot this with film how would it be different?

That conversion (made yet a bit darker) would fit very well into our Darkside Gallery, an undersection of the Photo Themes!

And yes, I would be interested to hear Max's further explanation, too.

sorry, i'm going to have to disagree. although you did that last one well, it just looks too gimmicky or something, like you can just tell its photoshopped. and what max meant by the conversion is, it looks like you just went into photoshop and converted to b&w without adjusting the contrast and brightness and all that stuff, it just seems sorta flat

I did adjust the levels. The fact is the original had no clouds in the area that I cropped, just blue sky. The photo with the steeple above is not what the image was cropped from.

The last one is kind of gimmicky. I took LaFoto's advice and mainly did that for the Darkside Forum. Thanks LaFoto, being new here I did not even know that forum existed.

I like the clouds! Gimmicky it may be to some, but I think it works.

I played w/the first bw in ps, and there isnt much you couldve done. Even adjusting the levels didnt do much but change the color a bit.

Thanks for trying, like I said, there was really nothing there but blue sky, all one color.

I like the one with the clouds. The fact that it is fake, gives it a little more oomph.

i think a better conversion would give a bit less of tht flat gray, even aside from the sky the bird and steeple need a bit more contrast.

i really like the edit though! i think the clouds give it that contrast i was talking about
