Insuring Equipment

I wasn't too sure where to post this question, but this seems like the most appropriate board.

I am from the UK, but have lived in NY for the last 3 years, and I still don't really understand how to insure individual high value items; many household insurance policies exclude so many things, they hardly seem worth having.

Can anyone recommend an insurance policy or company, that will insure camera equipment against theft or even accidental damage?

Check with any local Photo clubs or Associations, they should be ablle to tell you what insurance companies will cover your gear. I joined the PPOC in Canada in part for the insurance. My home insurance could not cover all my gear and some home insurrance will not cover your gear outside of your home.

You can get insurance specifically for your gear through a professional association like the PPA. That may or may not be worth it depending on how much you'd get out of the association's other benefits.

Otherwise, homeowners insurance or some umbrella or renter's policies.
