    Does Anyone know this effect

I've been searching for weeks now on what processing steps create this look but I don't even know what it's called. Have a look at both links and if you know please tell me!

High Dynamic Range, or HDR (sometimes HDRI, for High Dynamic Range Imaging).

We have a whole forum section on it.

Thanks for the tip. I've done some HDR so far, more experiments than anything else but I can't seem to even guess what the authors of those images did to create that cartoony type effect.

Yep.. HDR! It is a very common effect, especially for people that are new to HDR. We see a lot of that "Cartoony" effect, as you call it!

A more acurate description may be that the photos were tone mapped.

Tone mapping is part of the process for making an HDR image, but by usng applications like Lucis Art, Topaz Adjust, Photomatix, ACR, or Photoshop - a single exposure can be tone-mapped.
