I think that the first one would work really well if you had taken it earlier when the sun was higher in the sky. This way the first one is a bit dark.

Otherwise a very good composition and mood!

For me, the first one it IS!
I really like it. And a lot more than the second, for the golden reflection of the setting sun in the river water, and the bit of evening sky behind the trees nicely "warm" this photo, while the other looks so really cold (also colour temperaturewise).
Also I like the leaning trees on the right in the first photo, and the many bends and turns that little river takes. If I had taken that first, I might have wanted to share it here on TPF, too!

That's why i like the first one too. I just would have liked it to be a tad stronger (which could have been accomplished in post or by shooting the image earlier). The coldness of the river and the landscape would still remain.
