    Thank you for the insight Joel_W! Yeah, I don't like #1 either. I thought I would try over-saturating the photo to turn it into pictorialism, but as you can see, it didn't work out well. As for number 2, its not my place, but it is my buddy's. I will definitely go out soon (actually was out there last night for five minutes but didn't grab my camera because I'm an idiot). I noticed a different angle that will only have green leaves in the background. I do see what you mean with all the distractions, I thought including them would be alright but I didn't manage to get the correct composition that would complement the main flowers. I will try, try again.

    In regards to learning about the technical aspects of a camera before learning composition and lighting:
