What would be a good replacement for my 28:200mm lens

I am looking to replace my 28:200 lens and need to know what will be a good replacement? Since I am still new to all of this I would like to get the most bang for my buck.

The 28:200 is the lens from my N80 that I have been using on my D90. I need the replacement for the D90.

For dx I require d300s .... But if you want a full frame body d700... Or d3x would be the best

she's not looking for a body, my friend! She is looking for a lens! I agree that the 80-200 ED would be a great lens.. but they are still pricey.... $1000 or so. Far superior image quality to the Kit 80-200!

MissJones... we need a price range to be able to make pertinent suggestions! Also.. what kind of shooting do you want to do with it?

I would get the 80-200 2.8 as suggested. It is a big heavy lens that I donít find um, appropriate for all shooting situations. I would add something like a Nikon 18-70, which can be had for around $200 used, to balance it out.

The 80-200mm f2.8 is a great lens, and can be had for as little as $500 for the AF-D version.

However; 80mm is very long on the telephoto end and it's very heavy for everyday use. Instead I would suggest a tamron 28-75mm f2.8, and replace your old 28-200mm with a 50-200mm VR AF-S.

    ??????????

That might render about the same image quality as the 18-200 she is trying to dump.

Not as good 18-27, and much better at 28-300.
