    "Yes there is the Older 50mm f1.8 AF-D and the newer 50mm f1.8G AF-S "

Hmmm me Typo? Where? as was pointing out there is two versions of the 50mm f1.8 with the G being a tad more cost and considered better than the D.

Yesterday. Not you but the original Person I quoted. It has been fixed already. Seeing what you saw, I can see your question. However, when he mentioned get the 50 1.8G not the 1.8G, I asked 1.8G? Reason being, it could have been a typo. Could have meant 1.4G or 1.8D etc.

The 1.8D is still a good lens. It might not be as sharp wide open but still good. The 1.8G, aside from being af-s, IMHO, one of the things that make it better is less flare.

just remember there is no replacement for 1.4... you can always stop it down to 1.8... but you cant make a 1.8 go up to 1.4... over all image sharpness is only viewable by pixel peeping, and even sometimes not even then. Before I went Nikon I was a canon shooter and i could barely tell the difference between my 50L and my wifes 50mm 1.4. Sharpness wise that is, color and contrast and seperation was light years ahead on the L how ever. How ever the 1.4G vs 1.8G the colors look exactly the same to me. (own both)

Personally, I don't like 50mm on a crop sensor. I have to move back to far to get what I want in the frame.. I prefer the 35mm f/1.8G because it's closer to a 50mm equivalent

Yeah, to me 50mm on a crop frame is more of a portrait length.
Sometimes I forget to tell people I like their photos when I do C+C. If I gave you comments, I liked your photo. I don't bother with pictures I don't like at all most of the time.

true that. FOV is equal, but the separation just wont be. but being that Im a prime shooter I unfortunately have to own many of them
to cover my grounds while working gigs. i can pretty much shoot an entire event with a 50mm on FF these days... once in a while the 35 for the group shots/dinner table shots. On a crop i love the 24 1.4 and the 50mm 1.4 when using 2 crop bodies. It gives me a 35/85 setup almost which is my favorite for over all work.

If i only shot crop and had a small
budget my prime lens lineup would be

    35 1.8G, 50mm 1.4g, 85mm 1.8g.

I think that there are a lot of differences in colors and sharpness between 1.4 and 1.8, even if you don't see the image at 100%. See my link in the previous page.

1.8 looks A LOT better. Maybe it has the worst bokeh but the difference is very small.

IMO 50 mm for crop camera is a bit too tight for indoor. General use for outdoor is fine. I am very happy with my AFD 50 f1.8. Value for money.

Yes, AFD 1.8 is less expensive than 1.8G (and I could use it with AF on D7000) but I can see a lot of difference in image quality.

I think that 35mm on a DX is a bit too wide-angle to take portrait, don't you?

However I will try both lenses before buying one of them.
