May have to peek at this used lens, wonder what gives!?

Wonder what could be wrong with it for him to sell so cheap? Hope he sells it before I can go see it.

AF-S Nikkor (Nikon) 300mm f2.8G ED VR II lense

Nikon 300mm f2.8G ED VR II telephoto lens. It is in mint condition, very well cared for. It includes the lens, a nicely padded carry case, a strap for attachment to the lens, two front lens covers (I did not like the bag-type cover so I bought a nice hard cover) and the original box. I am the original owner, I purchased it in September 2011 and it also includes an instruction manual.

zOMG...$2,200...an absolute "steal"...does he have a warrant out for his arrest for, oh, I dunno...a bunch of unpayed parking tickets maybe? cough..cough...cough

The thing is, with big glass like this, as with many other exotic items, when a person finds himself in a financial jam, he can almost ALWAYS sell an item like this for a loss, and turn it into instant cash. If you want that danged lens, you'd better book on over tonight and arrange to buy it...before morning...

Yeah, you picked up on my use of the word "steal" in quotes...buuuuut....he could just as easily have a real, serious, legitimate financial crisis and need say $2k, plus some walking around money....who knows...I am STILL kicking myself, some nine years later, over NOT pulling the trigger on a nice,clean,$2,000 600mm f/4 ED-IF Ai-S Nikkor manual focus lens from a retail store here...it was a consignment lens...checked with police ID program before being put on sale...I waited a few hours to think it over...stupid,stupid,stupid...it was gone by the time I came to my senses...

E-mail him, ask for the serial # and have the police run it. If he won't give you the SN, don't even bother digging out your cheque-book.

I think you will want to move even faster now, by showing it here on TPF you introduced a possible bargain to exactly the type of customers who want it

Not me just generally. You may save 2200 now but chances are that if you are looking now you might eventually buy that model. Photography tech want is a sickness

"and the original box." Tells me more likely not stolen. As which thieves waste time looking for the boxes?

GEEZ, the guy FINALLY replied and its a Craigslist scam.

    Hello,

Thank you for your email. I am glad that you want to buy my AF-S Nikkor (Nikon) 300mm f2.8G ED VR II lense and the price I am asking is US $2,200.00. From the start I want to inform you that I left the USA a couple of days ago (next day after I listed this for sale) and I came in United Kingdom with my work (I am a member of the "Save The Children Foundation"). If you still want to buy it, we can do it in a very safe way using an escrow company. They will handle the delivery and will offer you a number of days of Inspection so you can test and see that the merchandise is exactly as described by me. I will pay all shipping/escrow fees.

    Thanks,
    John

Oh, well sheesh, if you're using an escrow company, then the deal is totally safe!

Oh, in a totally unrelated vein, have you heard back from that Nigerian royal family member you sent the money to? I was praying he got his family out of there without incident. Would love to hear some details as to how that all worked out. He sounded like such a wonderful man, and in such a desperate situation too. It was nice of you to loan him the $4,000. Pretty big of you, 2wheel!
