It depends on what you're interested in, compactness? Clarity? Simplicity? So compare them here by using the compare took

Well, I would never trade my D5100 for the D3200.

I love the extra dynamic range (DxOMark says 13.6 EV) that gives me "HDR with a single picture", i.e. much room to correct any light problems as long as I make sure I take my pictures at ISO100.

I also love the much better tolerance to high ISOs, and the overall much lesser noise that kills all advantages of the D3200 (slightly better color resolution, more megapixels) so very quickly once higher ISOs are needed.

I love having the swirvel monitor that I can flip backside so its perfectly protected, and allows me to see what I'm doing even when photographing from unusual angles. And unsual viewpoints are one of the major advantages of photography, in my opinion.

I love having a more cleaned up interface where most buttons are to the right. I really hate where Nikon put the menu button, though. Its so far out of the way. The D3200 however has a horde of buttons waiting there, all getting in the way.
