    arm is lighter than face.
kettle is almost hidden in darkness and is 'away' from camera.
    No definition in arm.

unfortunately, the picture shows me nothing but the content.

You first. Tell us as detailed and as descriptive as you can what your setup was for this shot. It seems you are trying to concentrate on something with the shot. Was it the camera settings, the lighting, the mood, the focus, the emotion, the tattoo?

If it's a fitness shot, it's not a good pose for it. I used to be a trainer and have attended many competitions, that image doesn't show his strength, physique, or definition as stated. If that's what you were going for, need a re shoot.

Okay. I'll try my best to remember. This photo is going in a book next to a piece that he wrote for it. He wanted a shot from a low angle in this move and he needed his tattoo and logo on his shirt to both be showing. I had my speedlite mounted on my camera and bounced it off a white wall with a reflector behind to get rid of shadows. I had to look up my camera settings just now.. Haha. I was shooting in manual and my shutter speed was set at 1/200. My aperture was 5.6. My focal length was 55mm. My ISO was 400. I don't remember my flash settings though. I want to know what you all think about the exposure and colors and crop and things of that sort.

He really tatted up Russian Kettlebell Certification? Dude's hardcore into KB training. (note...the C can also mean "certified" or "challenge", depending on if he's competed in challenges or if he's a certified instuctor.)

Although I noticed the tat, I really didn't read it or feel the need to look closer initially. Might think of that when composing too if he wants it to stand out.

Even thought this image is a front shot, it is typical of a lift/pose for lots of KB'ers. This would also show his logo better, and he can turn his arm a hair to show the tat better.

Lighting would be tricky as the profile might produce better shadows, but I think you could pull off a close up shot like your original image using this sort of pose.

    Just my .02 cents.

I don't have time for a reshoot because he's sending this in on Friday so I'm giving him this tomorrow. What do you think of the elements I am able to change?

In that case, it is what it is, just hope your client likes it.

You can possibly bring the brightness of the arm down a bit to match the rest of his skin, but other than that, you have your final product I think.

    Just my opinion.

It's not horrible, and knowing people, he will probably like it.

Ooooo. . . . I looked at this earlier, and was not able to tell that he was holding a kettle Just realized what this photo was all about based on the comments. I would suggest lightening the background and/or the kettle, and darken the arm (as others have said).

Okay thanks guys! I haven't calibrated my computer yet. I know, awful. So it appears brighter to me than it really is. Thank you for pointing that out.

If you're pc is like mine, it might print darker. :-(

I was going to say to try to lighten background as Pink mentioned, but it might end up grainy or icky..then you have to do more work to it to fix that...I just dunno without playing with it though.

I'm sure it will if it looks darker to everyone else. I'm messing with it right now, so I'll post what I come up with.
