Hmmm, I'm in doubt. Maybe crop just one person on the left? I think in #1 the DOF and the framing really help to bring out the colours. But in the crop, suddenly the colour looks too fake.

When I saw the first, uncropped version, also my initial thought was: crop. Too centred.

A vertical crop is one idea ... though my immediate idea, even before I had scrolled enough to reach your vertical crop solution, also was to stay with the horizontal but crop in from the left and above... as to move this colourful ski-er out of the centre but to keep some background. Maybe!?!?
