Wow, so many beautiful photos! It was tough to pick a favourite. Everyone did great jobs!
Well there are only 24 hours or so left, so let's try and give this one last push and get the voting numbers up. I know it takes a little time to work through the gallery to look at all 44, but it's worth it.

I'm not sure I'd agree.
Very tedious to go through that many photos that are a.) on different pages and a different part of the site. b.) go back and find the one's you liked... no way to compare c.) come to another page and scroll through hoping you remembered the right number.
I'm not sure that having the gallery shuffle the images is helpful either... it keeps moving them around on you.
I come back to my original suggestion.
Put the photos in a thread so they can be viewed all month long.
Have a panel of 3 or 4 senior members narrow it down to the top 5 or 10 ... or a number that reflects the volume of entries for the month. Then put those entries on a page with the survey/poll so it's all in one.
Mailing them in and worrying about them being anonymous is rather silly... if someone wants to win on popularity, they can still mail all their friends and ask that they vote for their picture. Is it really that important? To me, what is more important is sharing and viewing the images. Just make it a rule not to cheer lead or comment on the entry thread.
But pictures should be viewed. And that's the biggest disappointment I see in this format, the photos seem hidden. It seems to be more about the voting.
Maybe I'm wrong.![]()

I guess on this months' showing we are probably going to have a look at the manner in which this is handled. I can understand the points made at a-c, as I have the same issue myself, but it's hard enough handling what we've got now, without me then having to link each image individually into a thread for voting. Practically, there's little else I could do at the moment, as to the best of my knowledge there are no other tools here I can benefit from. I would be so much easier if people could submit via a web form that could check stuff like file size as images are uploaded.
I have a feeling that the December comp is going to be no better in this regard - I may well have set myself an uphill task here - Sisyphus would be proud...

Well we're now into the last 12 hours of voting and we've still not quite got to the same number of votes as we have entries. So if you've not looked just yet, then now is the time to do so and cast that all important vote.

Chris:
While this would require changing some of your initial criteria, you could:
Create ONE thread for entries. Anonymity would be lost... but I'm not convinced that's really an issue.
Establish 800 pixels on the longest side as your requirement - no watermarks... no borders/frames.
Closing Date.
All of the above allow people to see the images being entered.
After closing the entries, allow a time period (5 days?) for your "panel of judges" to pare down the entries to the top 10 or other relevant number.
Delete the entries that have not been chosen as finalists.
Add (forum software allows this) a Poll to the thread for general voting.
Again, just a suggestion... not trying to tell you what to do.
Thanks,
JT

If my maths is right, there is still around 15 minutes to go until the poll closes - can we get another 4 votes in here
