Low light Action Lens
Hi Folks
I am looking for information for a lens suitable for shooting fast moving mountain bikers in dark forest. I was considering the sigma 1.4 30mm.
What do you think?
Thnx

50mm 1.8 is probably one of the most popular primes. Pretty cheap and sharp too.
Nikon D300 - A few lenses - A couple of kids - A Mortgage etc.

The sigma 30 f/1.4 will probably do you fine, but why not go for a 50 f/1.4? If you shoot Nikon or Canon that's a great lens, and it gives you extra mm range.
The Nikon/Canon 50 f/1.4 is cheaper than the sigma too.

By the way I'm using a nikon D50
I was thinking of the 30mm as sometimes I have no choice than to be really close to the action, 5 feet or so.
What about the depth of field issue? What will be in focus on a bikerider at close range at f 1.4 - 1.8?

Very shallow. Bump it up.What about the depth of field issue?
As for distance, that shouldnt be a problem unless you are like RIGHT THERE! next to the bikers. Seriously, unless the "path" is the size of a small child, you'll be fine for distance.
EDIT: Wait read this wrong. WHY are you that close to bikers (I'm assuming these are bikers as they are speeding by?).

The bikers run on very tight twisting tracks fringed with trees

I am sure any fast lens will do. The focal-length all depends on your personal style of shoting and your location.
