    infinity, what it is and how do you do it?

    I am shooting fireworks -well attemting to at the airshow tonight and I read that I shoul focus to infinity-what does that mean and how do i do it?

    Well, I know you want a very small aperature size... ideally smallest possible... for the greatest depth of field. What I don't know is if that is necessarily considered "infinity"... I've kind of wondered that one myself.

    You know, maybe I should just shut up and wait for Helen to answer. lol

    Does your lens have a distance scale on it? If it does there will be a mark (it's shaped like a "L" on Canon) that will tell you where infinity is. If you don't have a distance scale you could just turn the focus ring all the way out (counter-clockwise looking from behind the camera on Canon - not sure if that's universal or not), but that might actually be a little past infinity.

    The infinite mark is generally shaped like an "8" that has fallen over. Infinity means that the object that youa re focussing on is a very long way from the camera.

    If it does have the distance scale on it just line up the mark under the window with the vertical part of the "L" and you will be at infinity.
