Backdrops
How do you determine the best color of backdrop for the shoot. I understand to shoot on multiple backdrops, but looking to see how everyone determines which backdrop to use. Ex. Subject is wearing a Blue and White shirt. What backdrop color would you use?
Thanks in advance for all the help!

I would use black with a blue and white shirt
It's a matter of visual preference... As far as I know, there is no rule to tell you what color backdrop to use...
I may be wrong.. I'm a noob and don't even do portraits... Just trying to help

Using a medium gray colored background allows the use of gelled lights to make it just about any color you want including black or white.
That is a lot less expensive than have 47 different backdrops of various colors.. . . . . . Keith . . . . . . .How Do I Use My Digital SLR?...

What is the subject, who is the photo for?
If the subject is the person, then I usually want to 'key' the clothing and the background, so that they are similar, thus making the subject/model's face have more contrast, thus drawing the viewer's eye.
If the subject is the clothing, then I'd choose a background that contrasts or highlights the clothing more. There's no correlation between creativity and equipment ownership. None. Zilch. Nada. Actually, as the artist gets more into his thing, and as he gets more successful, his number of tools tends to go down. He knows what works for him. Expending mental energy on stuff wastes time.

I think contrast color between backdrop and object is ok.
