It was shot at ISO 800 on a Rebel XS with a nifty fifty....so the original isnt all that great. I was trying to make something out of it. Its just too great a moment to delete.

I would decrease your noise reducion and actually add noise for this shot. Whatever noise reduction processing software did to much. Granted it did a good job, but not all shots need to have zero noise.
Fantastic capture. Try a landscape shot of right above his torso to the tops of their heads to pull it in a little more

IMO, I think the original shot above looks better than the crop. The crop shows over done PP on their faces and around the edge of 'grandpas' back and shirt.
