Shots with my new D5100 :) - Comments and Suggestions pleeeeze
So after much debate and advice from ze forum - I decided to return my D3100 to BBuy and get the D5100. Love it thus far. Do not regret my choice and am quite happy that I did. I just feel that if I do "expand" my skills this camera can definitely grow more with me. Anyway, here are some shots I took and would love some Comments and Suggestions from the "GREAT FORUM". I thank you all in advance.....

1 - I used my Nikon Macro lens, with magnifier, (35-105) that is about 20yrs old and bought for $55. Sweet deal. This picture had no flash just some overhead lighting. I had to wait for the incense to burn just right to get the shot. I was about 1 inch away.

2 - I used my Nikon 35mm 1.8G lens. This was a night shot w/ streetlights providing some lighting from the bottom left of the photograph.

3 - I used my Nikon 55-200mm. This was in broad daylight and i did my best to get the right Bokeh.

#1 - great detail, personally would have loved to see a bit of smoke trail from it
#2 - not feeling the composition, but love the warm ambient light
#3 - nice bokeh, flower is kind of wilted and dying...

I like #2 but would have preferred to have the frame lower so that you see more of the trees. Great background.
#3 is nice, but I would prefer to have the flower fill more of the frame IMO.Yashica-Mat 124G, Nikon D90, Nikon N75

#1 I like quite a lot. It has that zen thing going for it, the juxtaposition of the burning layer compared with the 'table' top vaguely behind it - even if that wasn't what you wanted, I like it. It does bother me that the incense is not vertical. IMO, anytime something that seems like it should be vertical or horizontal isn't, it should be for an artistic purpose. This just seems sort of random and I would fix that. - and perhaps move it a bit more away from the edge

#2 I don't know what you want me to look at
#3 the side of the flower is right in the middle of the image, again what is the point of interest here?Lew
