    D7000 Autofocus Problem

Hello all. I have a 5 month old D7000. I just noticed that when I first turn it on, it won't autofocus. It seems like it still needs to warm up. This happens if the camera has not been used for some period.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Have you checked all the obvious stuff?

Is the AF/M switch on the camera in the AF position?

Is the AF/M switch on the lens in the AF position?

What AF mode are you using? Does it work in other AF modes?

What lens are you using? Does it work with other lenses?

Does it AF in Live View?

I would suspect the lens before suspecting the camera body.

The auto focus motor and mechanical focusing mechanism is in the lens.

The AF phase-detection module is in the bottom of the camera body.

What AF mode are you using? Does it work in other AF modes? AF-S; will explain below

What lens are you using? Does it work with other lenses? 35mm 1.8; yes it works for other lenses
Actually, it focuses after several attempts from a cold start. It's like it has to warm up first. After it finally focuses after 30 seconds of trying, it will focus every time. This happens most of the time but not every time.

I just find this frustrating because I have missed several shots due to this delay.

I'm afraid that when I send this back to Nikon, they will not be able to replicate my problem and send it back as is.

Any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Is that what is known as a self fulfiling prophesy?

You have to send the camera in. It sure won't fix itself.
