no, you can still do it (i do it all the time) you just have to make sure you've got your contacts in, and focus very carefully, as theres no split prism (like most mf films) you can watch for the dot in the bottom left corner of the viewfinder to lightup for focus too.

metering is all manual, and no tips, i've gotten pretty good at guessing a starting point, just use the histogram/lcd to tell you if you need to increase or decrease exposer, what i usually do it just take a series of shots first thing to figure out what exposer i need, then as i move around, i'll tell my self, this is quite abit darker/lighter than what i was shooting at first, so lets open up/stop down a stop or 2, or whatever the subject calls for

btw, you have to have teh camera set to m

Protean is right on the money. Basically your D50 will act as a Manual camera like a Fm2 or similar except you won't have the split focusing screen.

To young photogs...you owe it to yourself to at least once experience the feel and smoothness of a MF Nikkor lens when shooting.

I have never used an AF lens which approach that feel. Hard to explain unless you have experienced it.

rofl, i've heard about that a little bit, you can get an adapter from somewhere or other that makes nikon lenses fit on canon bodies (althought i don't think "g" type lenses work), canons metering still works, but its mf. so the only thing you really get out of it is metering, which is pretty easy to do anywho (and no, i don't have an external meter other than my eyes)

Having started with a non metered Nikon F I can proudly say that I can guess 90%+ of the exposure within 1 stop and most internal meters aren't really any more accurate. If they were nobody would need darkrooms...digital or otherwise. I'm not as fast as a ding diddly darned sillycone chip though!
