Is there an alternative tripod mount ring I can buy for my EF 70-200mm f/4l other than Canon's
Canon Tripod Mount Ring A II (W) for 70-200mm f/4L Lenses?

At $200 here in Canada, it's a little too much just for a ring.

That lens was so light that I was able to just use the camera mount. A tad front heavy, but a good tripod head will hold it up. I also rigged a metal pipe clamp ring with it bolted to a tripod quick release plate, but that's ghetto. Worked though. Should have taken a photo of it, but I upgraded to the f/2.8 so ditched the clamp.

I checked ebay as well, and there are lots from overseas at a pretty cheap price!!

I use a 1.4x TC on mine, so wouldn't mind the tripod ring either.

I think I may have to buy one now!!

    Cheers

It's not the weight that would concern me, but rather the balance. I had the f4 before going to the f2.8. It's not that heavy of a lens, but the balance on a tripod or monopod is greatly improved. Especially for the price on e-bay.
