Comparable flash to Cannon 430 EX

Hello! I am looking to get a better flash for my Cannon Rebel Eos XTi. I need something comparable to Cannon 430 EX, but am not quite wanting to spend so much. If anyone has any suggestions for me, I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!

If you want to "get into more professional looking work"...then I suggest using off-camera flash, in which case, the cheapest option is probably to get a cheaper (non dedicated) flash. Of course, it depends on the type of photography that you want to do.

I suggest a kit like THIS as well as reading THIS.

Plenty of 420EX and 550EX flashes on the used market.
