Baby Brogan
Let me first say that babies and children are not my target market, at all. This is the third newborn I have shot in 3 years. It was less intimidadting than I thought (maybe because he is my first nephew!!) but I was quick to remember why newborn shoots are not for me! Although we had a few props, I ended up going back to my style - a bit more casual and laid back. Brogan only slept for about 8 minutes in the 4 hours I was there.
All that being said, I would appreciate some C&C, as I know I will take on the odd newborn shoot. Thanks!
ps - All shot with natural light and with either my 50 1.4 (mostly at 1.8-2.8) or 24-70 2.8. Sorry for the low quality link from Facebook

Really nice series. Absolutely pro quality.
Image #1 portrays Mom's feet as the primary subject, but other than that, all of them are fantastic.
Nice set of storytelling images. Wonderful use of available light. Speechless actually.M. Photog. Cr. CPP

hi rub,
i like your style, as you say its laid back and natural. I tend to notice that when shooting for family or friends there is less pressure and easier to get natural shots.
#1 is cool pic, one of those funny pics that you dont think you will ever take
What I find that when you use natural window light for newborn pics (as in ur example #2 and #3) the light is a tad hard compared to what it would have came out if used softbox but nevertheless its still very good. I like using natural light as much as possible myself especially when on location.
#5 nice pic, the only thing I could say the framing or where you took the picture from, would be nicer to see a bit more of baby's face.
Love the #4 and #6 (really nice floor color), would it look better with the wardrobe doors? maybe but hey it's sometimes hard to see these little things until you look at the picture.

Kristal,
I find myself magnetized by things, may it be songs, movies, art, scenarios that give me that Sunday Afternoon feeling - you did that for me in this series... just amazing story telling!
I felt like I was there. Also, I love how you expanded the story in shots 5 & 6. These aren't just pictures, these are absolute organic!"Imagination is more important than knowledge."

Thanks again, and Cameron - you made me get a little teary there.
I guess this session is more important that really any other session I have had. I have never had a very close relationship with my family, and choosing a career path that is not, in their eyes, a "real job" has always been an issue of contention with them. That being said, my sister asked my to be there with her for the birth of Brogan, and I was able to capture some great moments for them. Followed up with this shoot, I think it has brought us so much closer together, when we both can see a little bit more into each others worlds, and loves.
For me, image 5 represents so much. Its my favortite image that I have captured this year. Maybe this life.

You did awesome and I'm glad you're doing your not real job.
Image 5 shows emotion and tenderness. Lovely job. I really like your colored photos so the #4 in b&w kinda breaks the flow of the rest. Would love to see that image in color.

love #3, and #5 really works for me because you can see just the hint of Brogan's eyes being open, which for me makes it. Excellent, natural, well balanced and intimate yet relaxed family set - there are pro's I know who shoot these subjects day in day out for years who are no way near as good as you. Keep it up.

PS - my dad said i'd never make any money taking photos, n that it was just an excuse of mine to be lazy. That was 25-odd years ago, and i've been lucky enough to not only make a decent living but got travel to some amazing parts of the world to do it, so i'm with you there...!

I like all except #1.. even oof you can hardly tell she's holding her baby so unless your going for foot shot I don't think it is aesthetic paired with the other shots
