what if i have them on desktop ? i keep getting the http thing

You click on the sticky thread in the beginner's forum that is titled "how to post my images on TPF"

Basics... you need to host your image somewhere and then post a link to the image where it is hosted.
Ex: put it up on flickr / photobucket / imageshack / picassa and then use the image link with the IMG codes
