Hello and some help would be appreciated!
My name is Alex, and now a little about me. I longboard, work full time for the summer, pour money into my Wrangler and I am just now getting into the film photography scene after 3 years of watching my friends enjoy it. I know some basic terminology and what certain parts do, and whats good, but what I need help with is choosing between these two cameras: Nikon FE and Canon A1. What do you guys think? I know of both of them, and how they work, and what features they come with, but really whats driving me around is the availability of parts and lenses for these two cameras.
I know that Nikon did not change its mount, so the new lenses and old lenses are compatible with either the DSLR's or the 35mm body which is why they are so valuable. (The cameras and parts I mean.)
Now the Canon A1 had changed their mounts in the 90's if I remember correctly, making the older lenses obsolete thus rendering them at much cheaper prices.
I talked to my local photography store, and they were not able to give me a straight answer. One of them said the Nikon because of its compatibility and wide variety, and another employee said the Canon because of all the spare bodies, parts, and vast lens selection. They mentioned as well that the Nikons are more expensive and the Canons are not.
I am planning on taking a class this fall, (first year Community College student) for film, so which of the two would be best? I can spend a max of $150 for the class. Mainly I am doing this for my own pleasure, because I absolutely love photography. Also and beginner book recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
As vague as this is, I would love any help! Thanks guys!
