Should work fine. I have a magnesium alloy Flashpoint "adorama" grip. It's flawless. Got it for peanuts.
I will try that when I'm testing my lens, upon it's return, of course.
I honestly believe my lens had a back focus issue.
It comes back next week, and I'll test it, big time.

I bought my Nikon 24-70 F2.8G for $1000.00 & my Nikon 70-200mm F2.8G VR1 for the same. Both keh.com Bargain Grade, last year, I think.

I own the non-VR and it's awesome. I'm not planning on upgrading. I've never needed VR at that zoom range.

Buy it from adorama, B&H or keh and you'll get a warranty and time to test it out, etc...
