pixelly pics dark pics

I am not what you would call a camera whiz or anything, but I must have changed a setting, unbeknownst to me and now all of my pictures are coming out dark and really pixelly, if the subject is more than 5 feet from my camera. What did I do? I don't know settings at all and this camera was given...
