Why does it keep changing the pound sign into a does not equal sign?

I see both in your post, but your does not equal sign looks different than mine.

You still see the pound sign (#) inside of my quote?

Your does not equal sign looks more like a double dagger (‡), this is 'does not equal': ≠.
 
Do all of the characters look the same on your monitor as what I'm seeing?
