    1st caterpillar of the year, and what a good one!!!!
    He was massively plump and colorful and a specimen I have never seen.

    Very nice!
    I believe it is Hyles Euphorbiae, the Leafy Spurge Hawkmoth. It belongs to the Family of moths called sphinx moths, and subfamily Macroglossinae.
