The first image is underexposed and looks flat because of the lack of contrast.

The second image is confusing to look at. The area in focus is so small and the out-of-focus background takes up so much of the frame that the entire image looks out-of-focus.

What kind of camera was used? A P&S? Do you know the shot settings for both shots?

ya im using an older p&s but im trying to get money for an slr
(olympus e-520 two lens kit) but i need to get a job (im 14)

shot 1: 1/2000 f 4
iso 50
shot 2: 1/50 f 5.5
iso 50

Calm down. You will get a response if people feel it deserves one. Sorry, that may sound cruel, but thats how it is.

1- underexposed, distracting background, and the subject is rather boting to be honest.
2- Better, bad lighitng. Good DOF. I dont like the crop. The foreground in this one is kind of distracting. Especially the lighter line in the immediate foreground.
