24-85mm f/2.8-4D or 24-70mm f/2.8G

All that recomending the 24-85mm are missing one imortant issue and thats the comfort of shooting the lens wide open.
Today in my walk around camera bag I have 3 lenses.
Nikon 24-70 2.8
Tamron 70-200mm 2.8
Nikon 50mm 1.8D

The 24-70 and 70-200 cover all my needs in good to near dark conditions, 2 lenses I can do everything I like except macro.
Owning the 24-85mm means considerable less flexibility in lower light condition.
I had the 24-85mm VR, great lens but when it gets darker and ISO goes higher you really want as much light to put into that starving sensor aa you can. I personally would rather get the Sigma 24-70mm 2.8 over the 24-85mm just for that reason only even though its not superb IQ between f2.8-f4 but cost close to the Nikon 24-85mm

Get the faster lens even if it means more money, if you can afford it you will not be sorry.
Tamron or Nikon its your chose but fast glass when you need it is worth its weight in gold!

don't confuse the
Nikon AF Zoom-Nikkor 24-85mm f/2.8-4D IF
with the
Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G ED VR
with the
Nikon AF-S Zoom-Nikkor 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G IF-ED

they're 3 separate lenses.
Even though I have the 24-85/2.8-4
I've also kept my 35-70/2.8 just due to it's low cost, and constant f/2.8 in that range.

This list is rigged I say lol

Seriously, I would have thought the 28-70mm would have place better as well. I'm actually thinking about upgrading my walking around lens, maybe a 24-120mm F4.
I didn't rig it. I'm sure there are specific things broken down into the rating. But it's interesting that the 24-85/2.8-4 is rated up there above the other 24-85s and the sigma 2.8

This is a lot to process .. haha

i probably would walk to some location and see how the 24-70 f2,8 would feel like. so far it looks that its better to have the latest lens than an old model lens ?

I'd buy the Tamron/Nikon 24-70/2.8 .. if I could afford one.
But I can't, so I have the 24-85/2.8-4 and 35-70/2.8 which together cost less than half of a used Tamron.

But if you have the money ....

me having only 50mm right now and i will get only one lens more ;) and that would be all forever haha

i dont shoot professionally (in other words get no money out of my pictures) so i think just one lens so hoping to get the best i can.

Maybe you need f2.8, but if you don't another option to look at is the sigma 24-105 f4 OS. This range is great on ff and with high iso ability of newer cameras f4 maybe all you need
