My brother wanted to look like on of the soldiers in the movie 300. Wierd desire but i went with it.. He wanted me to try and mimic the lighting used in that movie.. So I took his photo using just a 36" umbrella light and set ap at i think it was 1/10 on my camera. Adjusted lighting in photoshop and did a small diffuse glow. What do you think?

the 300 looks a bit warmer and much more gritty than that

I think that style also has a lower color saturation and an added tone, somthing like sepia. I've been trying to search for examples of that style but I don't know what search words to use.

Somehow I don't think the soldiers from 300 have "Mom" tattoo'ed on them.

I know the DP from 300, Larry Fong, and I think you've re-created the look quite well in attempt 3.

But just bare in mind that he was using Kodak 5229 cine film, either cooke or zeiss lenses (around 25k each) and either an Arri or Panavision camera.

And most of what made it look so amazing was the post-production grading.
